So, over in the Kremlin, President Vladimir Putin just dropped the news about a temporary Easter truce in Ukraine. He mentioned it during a meeting, saying it’s all about humanitarian reasons. The plan is for the ceasefire to kick off at 6 p.m. Moscow time on Saturday and run until midnight on Easter Sunday.

Putin seemed pretty hopeful that Ukraine would also play along with the ceasefire. He did, however, add a word of caution for his troops, saying they need to stay on alert for any potential trouble or sneaky moves from the other side.
As for the Ukrainian officials, they didn’t waste any time jumping in with a response right after Putin’s announcement.
Interestingly, this announcement came just a day after President Donald Trump commented that the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia were really starting to heat up. He made a pretty bold statement, saying if one side was being unreasonable, they’d just have to call them out as foolish and move on.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio also chimed in, suggesting that the U.S. might be ready to shift gears if things don’t progress soon. He emphasized that they need to determine quickly whether a deal is possible, because if it’s not, they’d just move on from the whole situation.
These comments followed a pretty intense day of talks involving U.S., Ukrainian, and European officials in Paris, with Rubio making it clear that they’re not looking to drag this out for weeks or months.
