On Saturday at 4:45 p.m., the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received a call for rescue work in Drabešu Parish, Cēsi County, where a boatman had fallen from a boat in the Amata River, VUGD informed.

On Saturday at 4:45 p.m., the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received a call for rescue work in Drabešu Parish, Cēsi County, where a boatman had fallen from a boat in the Amata River, VUGD informed.

According to VUGD representatives, the boatman managed to get to the bank of the Amata river on his own, but due to his injury, he cannot get home by himself.
The rescuers measured a path of about one kilometer along the river to the injured person.
In total, two people were found who had escaped to the shore before the arrival of VUGD. One of them was injured in the incident. At the moment, both people have been handed over to the doctors of the Emergency Medical Service.
Very experienced boaters always remind us that Amata in the spring is not such a pleasure trip for beginners.

It has already been reported that in the central part of Vidzeme, an orange level warning is in effect regarding the flooding of the floodplain and lower areas of the banks of the Amata river, as well as wider flooding of the territory, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVĜMC).
Meanwhile, in the eastern part of Latvia, a yellow level warning is in effect for a high water level.
LVĜMC informs that warm weather is expected during the rest of the weekend, and precipitation is also expected in some places. River runoff will increase, more rapidly in the river basins of the eastern part of Latvia. The water level will rise, floodplains and lower areas will flood more widely.
At the end of March and the beginning of April, frost is expected at night, then the inflow of water to the rivers will stop a little, the flow of the rivers will decrease and the water level will drop.
LVĜMC warns that there is still ice in the lakes and it is losing its strength. For this reason, being on ice is dangerous.
