This week, the government supported the plan of the Ministry of Education and Science to prohibit the holding of entrance exams in secondary schools in those subjects in which centralized exams are held, as of September of this year, Panorāma reports.

One of the prestigious gymnasiums in Riga, Riga State 1st Gymnasium, where entrance exams are held every year, is confused about such a plan.
The school states that entrance exams are a proven value that allows not only to find the best of the best, but also to maintain a high quality bar.
“The state itself has determined that gymnasiums must work with higher educational achievements. If there are no entrance exams, how will we select? How will we work?” Jānis Zeimanis, the deputy director of Riga State 1st Gymnasium, expressed his confusion.
Currently, the idea is supported only by the government, it has yet to be seen in the Saeima. For now, it is clear that the entrance exams in Riga gymnasiums will definitely take place this year.
