After six years, the itinerant meeting of economists is returning to Eger: last time, in 2017, the audience of the conference was able to see a lecture by Nobel Prize-winning economist Thomas Sargent here. (In connection with this, Portfolio conducted an interview with the renowned scientist.)

This year, the professional program consists of two plenary sessions and 16 thematic sessions. László Windisch, the president of the State Audit Office, will be among the speakers of the opening plenary session, and inflation will be the central theme of Friday’s closing plenary session: about this, Minister of Economic Development Márton Nagy; Gábor Valkó, deputy president of the KSH; Gabriella Heiszler, president and CEO of SPAR Hungary, board member of MKT’s Commercial Department; and Ákos Péter Bod, university professor, MTA doctor, MKT vice-president will share his thoughts with the audience.

Economic challenges caused by the post-covid period, the war, the energy crisis and artificial intelligence will be discussed in the thematic sections. Over the course of the two days, section meetings will take place in parallel in four rooms on the topics of macroeconomics, money and capital markets, corporate competitiveness and innovation, as well as demography and European integration. In the sections, the medium-term prospects of the Hungarian economy, artificial intelligence, the situation of the domestic wine industry and the first results of the census will be discussed, and in the sports economics section, as is now traditional, those interested will also be able to meet Olympic champions. Among the presenters of the sections will be companies, banks, and financial institutions that dominate the money and capital markets, top leaders of domestic business, renowned economic researchers, analysts, senior managers of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank and various ministries. This year, the program of the traveling meeting will also be supplemented by about a dozen pre-recorded sessions – the video recordings of these will be published on the conference website by the MKT at the start of the conference.
