Violators of the provision will be sentenced to as much as two years in jail.

At the finish of the debate that lasted virtually 4 hours, the proposal was accepted by the 179-member parliament on the third studying with 94 sure votes.

Opponents of the draft legislation argued that the provision punishing the “mishandling” of non secular texts it curtails freedoms.

The Copenhagen authorities justified the proposal with safety causes, and argued that the guidelines included in it could not have vital penalties for the aforementioned rights, and the criticisms in opposition to religions formulated in different methods are nonetheless not prohibited.

In Denmark this 12 months, activists burned a number of copies of the Koran, sparking outrage and a wave of protests throughout the Muslim world, inflicting diplomatic tensions with Copenhagen.

Following one such motion, in July, tons of of protesters stormed the Danish embassy in Baghdad.
