The United States, South Korea and Japan strongly condemned North Korea’s recent launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). The three nations jointly stated that this action not only violates several UN resolutions, but also poses a significant threat to regional peace and stability.

The missile was launched from North Korea’s east coast on Wednesday and flew for 74 minutes, reaching an altitude of 6,000 km and traveling a distance of 1,000 km. This is the longest recorded flight time for a North Korean missile.

In a joint statement, the senior foreign officials of the United States, South Korea and Japan announced a gross violation of several resolutions of the UN Security Council. They further stressed that this poses a serious threat to the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and beyond.

The nations called on North Korea to immediately stop its illegal and provocative actions and return to dialogue. The statement was issued following a meeting between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin at the ASEAN Regional Forum in Jakarta, Indonesia.
