Precipitation, mainly sleet and snow, is expected under the influence of the cyclone. It will snow heavily and for a long time on both Tuesday and Wednesday – a new layer of snow will form in a large part of the country. Drivers should expect that driving conditions will become more difficult again – roads will be slippery and visibility will deteriorate during precipitation.
Next week will start with cloudy weather, but the sky will clear at times. It will rain overnight on Monday, wet snow is also possible in the west, while precipitation is expected only in places during the day. A slow wind will blow at night, a slow to moderate south-westerly, westerly wind during the day. The air temperature will drop to 0…+3 degrees at night, it will not be warmer than +1…+6 degrees during the day.
Also on Tuesday, the sky will be mostly covered by clouds, only at the beginning of the night they will clear up at times. In the morning, a cyclone will reach the territory of Latvia from the southeast, which will bring heavy and long-lasting precipitation, mainly snow in the eastern and central regions. In many places, a new snow cover will form, its thickness will reach 5-9 centimeters (cm) in the central and eastern regions of the country, locally in the east the snow layer may be even thicker, exceeding even 10-14 cm.
A moderate westerly wind will blow, in the afternoon in the western part of the country, the northwesterly, westerly wind will be gusty, so it will snow in places. At night, the air will cool down to +1…-3 degrees, while during the day the thermometer will rise to 0…+5 degrees. Drivers should take into account that the roads can be slippery in certain sections, visibility will deteriorate during precipitation.
As the effect of the cyclone remains, the sky will be covered by a thick blanket of clouds on Wednesday as well. Snowfall will continue, in some places the thickness of the snow cover will increase by another 1-4 cm, but rain is expected in the extreme east of the country. In the second half of the day, the intensity of precipitation will gradually decrease. If in the east of the country, the north-west, west wind will be slow to moderate, then in the western and central regions of the country it will reach 15-19 meters per second in gusts. The minimum air temperature at night and the maximum during the day will be within -2…+1 degrees, only in the northeast the temperature will be +3…+5 degrees.
In the second half of the working week, precipitation will be less and the sky will clear at times, but the weather will still be cool. At night, the air temperature will mostly be in the range of -1…-7 degrees, but during the day the thermometer will not exceed the +6 degree mark. Current forecasts show that we will not expect big changes in weather conditions at the end of the week either.
