The Chamber voted yes to the question of confidence posed by the Draghi government on the conversion of the “aid decree” into law, with 410 votes in favor and 49 against.
The result of the vote is relevant because it takes place after days of tension in the majority around the approval of the rule, on which the 5 Star Movement had requested several changes that had not been accepted. The government had decided to raise the question of trust and it was feared that this decision could push the 5 Star Movement out of the government. The tensions had made it necessary for a meeting between the leader of the 5 Star Movement Giuseppe Conte and the Prime Minister Mario Draghi, of which Conte then gave an account to the joint assembly of parliamentarians of his party on Wednesday afternoon.
In the end, 28 out of 104 deputies of the 5 Star Movement did not vote: thirteen were on a mission and fifteen were absent. Conte summed up the party’s position as follows: “Yes to confidence in the Chamber, we’ll see in the Senate.”
The final vote on the measure is scheduled for next Monday at 2 pm. The law will then pass to the Senate, which must be expressed by July 16.
