Red Bull’s Sergio Perez won the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, which took place on Sunday afternoon on the Montecarlo street circuit. Perez preceded the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz and his teammate Max Verstappen, winning for the first time in his career in one of the most prestigious circuits in motorsport. The other Ferrari driver, the Monegasque Charles Leclerc, finished the home Grand Prix in fourth place.

The race was affected by the rain which delayed the start by over an hour. The Ferraris started from the front row, a great advantage in a tight circuit like that of Monte Carlo. In the first part of the race, however, when the track began to dry out, Ferrari made a strategic mistake by sending Leclerc back to the pits twice in a short time. At the second stop, Leclerc was sent back behind Sainz and from there he was unable to recover.

Instead of the traditional 78 laps, the race ended on the sixty-fourth lap due to time limits due to the postponement of the start. The two Red Bulls and the two Ferraris finished it together, one after the other. Thanks to the third place, the reigning world champion Verstappen still gained a few points ahead of Leclerc in the drivers’ standings.
