Jane Birkin was born in London on December 14, 1946. In 1966, she starred in Michelangelo Antonioni’s film Photorealisation and Jack Smith’s Kaleidoscope. In 1969, she played the main female role in the film “Slogan” directed by Pierre Grimble, the main male role was played by Serge Gainsbourg, who became Birkin’s long-time partner.

Birkin was found dead in her Paris apartment on Sunday, reports Le Parisien.
Jane Birkin became famous in the 60s and 70s of the last century – her career accelerated with the 1967 film “Blow Up”. It was awarded the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. In 1968, she starred together with Alain Delon and Romy Schneider in the film “La Piscine”, which is currently considered a cinema classic.
In 1969, Birkin, who had moved to France, recorded the famous song “Je tʼaime… moi non plus” with Gainsbourg. Many radio stations didn’t play it at first because of the “lewd” lyrics, but within a few months it sold more than a million copies, making it a worldwide hit.
In 1976, the film of the same name “I love you… I don’t love you either” was released with Birkin in the main role. For her participation in this film, Birkin was nominated for the “César” French cinema award.
In the 70s, Birkin also attracted attention with a nude photo in the French men’s magazine “Lui”.
In 1980, Birkin and Gainsbourg divorced. Their daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg became a famous actress and singer.
However, even after the divorce, Gainsbourg continued to write songs for Birkin.
She has had roles in more than 70 films, also by such famous directors as Jean-Luc Godard and Agnieszka Varda.
In the late 1990s, Birkin battled leukemia. In 2021, she suffered a stroke.
Besides Charlotte, Jane Birkin has two more children – Kate Barry (photographer, who died in 2013, committed suicide) and Lou Divion (singer and actress).
Birkina also performed in Latvia.
