After a night of heavy bombardment of the Mariupol steel plant, Russian soldiers are now trying to storm it. Says several Ukrainian media, including Independent Kiev.
Russian Ria writes that they are shooting Ukrainian soldiers in steel mills. Ria’s reporter on the spot reports that artillery fire can be heard from the steel mills and smoke is rising from the site.
AFP writes that Russian planes are also participating in the attack.
During the night’s attacks, two civilian women hiding in Azovstal were killed, writes the Ukrainian Pravda.
Several civilians remain in the steel mills
It was previously reported that around 1,000 civilians are hiding in steel mill tunnels. Only a few days ago an evacuation attempt was made from the steel mills.

Now it is not clear how many are still in the steel mills. On Monday evening, Reuters reported that there were about a hundred civilians.
– I hope there can be another round of evacuations so that the civilians remaining during the works can get out. There are 20 children and about a hundred civilians, women and the elderly. This is what we have included, Azov Battalion Deputy Commander Sviatoslav Palamar told Reuters.
The steel mill has been described as the last Ukrainian stronghold in Mariupol. According to previous information, about 2,000 soldiers are in Azovstal, in addition to civilians hiding there.
