Pensions 2023. Will the KPO induce the government to lower the retirement age?

PiS, when it took power in 2016, lowered the statutory retirement age. To meet the expectations of the European Commission, the rulers will not have to change the relevant legal provisions. However, it may be easier than increasing the actual, i.e. real, age at which Poles retire. This is what the European Commission expects from Poland. However, the rulers reminded that “the effective retirement age is not the retirement age, but the working age”.

– Raising the effective retirement age, i.e. creating incentives to continue working after reaching retirement age. We will never touch retirement age. We plan to partially exempt people who would like to continue working after reaching retirement age from contributions and taxes. We want to create incentives so that – if someone has such a chance – to continue working, reaching retirement age – assured Buda on Radio Zet.

National reconstruction plan. How will the government encourage Poles to work longer?

The rulers had already started the process of encouraging Poles to work despite reaching retirement age. The Polish Lada includes a provision according to which working retirees are exempt from income tax (PIT), which is to encourage them to continue their professional activity.

Buda said he would like people able to work, who still have a job, to be satisfied with it and their family situation allows them to continue working.

The European Commission has obliged Poland to submit a report on activities increasing the effective retirement age. Poland will have to submit the documents in the fourth quarter of 2024.
