Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic won the Wimbledon tournament by beating Australian Nick Kyrgios in three hours in the final for three sets to one (4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6). For Djokovic it is the seventh victory in the English Grand Slam tournament – one less than Roger Federer’s record – and the fourth in a row: last year he won against Matteo Berrettini, in 2019 against Federer and in 2018 against Kevin Anderson.

With this latest success, Djokovic surpasses Federer as career victories in Slam tournaments (21 to 20) and approaches Rafael Nadal’s 22.

For Kyrgios it was the first final in a Grand Slam, reached at the age of 27 also thanks to the retirement of Nadal, his opponent in the semifinals. Always considered an extremely talented tennis player, however, Kyrgios has been held back over the years by a rather unstable and irascible character that often influenced his performance, as well as his injuries.

It also happened in the Wimbledon final, where Kyrgios got off to a good start by winning the first set. But then he started to have discussions with the referee and the audience and dropped his attention, while Djokovic stayed in the game winning three sets in a row, the last of which was a comeback.
