A MAN has been arrested and charged with attempting to kidnap a child after an adult was spotted picking the kid up at the supermarket.
Sergejus Paskevicius, 59, from Heywood in Rochdale, will appear in court today accused of attempted child abduction.
CCTV footage, shows a man, thought by cops to be Mr Paskevicius, standing in the bagging area of the Heywood Aldi and seemingly attempting to talk to a child at 5.45pm on 23 July.
After apparently trying to talk to the child, the man in the CCTV video then appeared to pick the child up and start walking out of the shop.
The video was shared online but cannot be released by The Sun for legal reasons.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “We’ve had charges authorised for a 59-year-old man after an initial report of an attempted abduction of a child at a store in Heywood a week ago.”
“Sergejus Paskevicius, from Heywood, has been remanded in custody and will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court today (30 July) accused of child abduction after an investigation by our detectives in Rochdale CID alongside our local neighbourhood officers.”
