Monthly passenger traffic at Frankfurt Airport has exceeded more than 6 million for the first time since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, airport operator Fraport said on Friday.

Germany’s busiest aviation hub experienced a 20% year-on-year increase in July.

But the airport’s recovery to pre-pandemic levels continues, however, with passenger traffic still 13% lower as compared to July 2019. The shortfall in May was 17.5% and in June 15.6%.

In the cargo business, the volume of freight and airmail increased in July after a prolonged period of declines. A total of 164,503 tons were handled in Frankfurt, about 1% more than a year earlier.
