Violating the internal rules of the hospital, a man smoked a cigarette under a blanket in Ogre Hospital. As a result of this action, the man’s bed caught fire and he received 20% of his body burns, reports “Degpunktā”.

Dainis Shirovs, the chairman of the board of the Ogre district hospital, says that the man has also clearly violated the internal rules of the medical institution, which he signed when entering the department.

He says: “It’s a good thing we had a fire safety briefing beforehand, because two nurses from the internal department responded very quickly and extinguished the blaze without causing a fire, and immediately began providing first aid as for a burn.”

The accident happened on Thursday after 10 p.m.

In total, 30 people were evacuated from the third floor of the hospital. VUGD has no information about the fact that any incidents occurred during the evacuation.

Thanks to the prompt and correct actions of the Ogre Hospital staff, the consequences of the fire were minimal, confirms VUGD.
