Ksenija expressed her bad experience with the NVA on the social network “Twitter” – when applying for unemployment status, the woman asked the consultant if it was possible to combine unemployment benefits with receiving a small royalties from her published articles, to which the consultant answered in the affirmative. However, at the moment when the woman was supposed to receive the benefit, the NVA allegedly contacted her and told her that Ksenia’s unemployment status had been cancelled. To blame – the overabundance of euros received from royalties.

Aiva Zīrākas, head of the Methodological Department of the State Social Insurance Agency (VSAA), explained that the law provides for such an arrangement. And it doesn’t even matter how much the royalty was. She added, however, that it is possible to receive royalties if the unemployed person has obtained the status of self-employed and the royalties do not exceed the national minimum wage, which is currently 620 euros.
