He informed that the initial state support of up to 3,000 euros or up to 20 euros per square meter has already been paid to residents whose homes were damaged by the August 7 storm. From Tuesday, the second phase will begin – the payment of crisis benefits in the amount of up to 2,500 euros per home for those who cannot cope with the initial benefit.

Gorskis said that a total of 78 applications for state aid were received from Bukaishi Parish, 43 decisions on payment were made and support was given to 54 people. Gorski explained that decisions can also involve several people, so the number is smaller.

On the other hand, the parish received 26 applications for the crisis allowance.

Gorski said storm recovery efforts are moving forward, although many of the affected buildings are still under temporary tarpaulin roofs and some have yet to be addressed. Many more buildings will have to be roofed.

The municipal company “Dobeles namsaimnieks” has also committed to put all 27 apartment buildings damaged by the storm in order by mid-September.

Gorskis also explained that the third stage of support could also be activated, because the existing legal framework allows the payment of benefits only for housing. Poorer people may also need help tidying up, for example, sheds or garages, and for this purpose the approximately 23,000 euros donated to the association “Tavi draugi” will be used.

At the same time, Gorskis admitted that, most likely, it will not be possible to put everything in order by the fall, so currently the parishes are identifying needs and talking about opportunities.

It has already been reported that in the parishes of Dobele district, there will be a meeting of residents with council management and specialists responsible for preventing the consequences of the storm.

The municipality invites residents to meet with the chairman of the Dobele County Council, Gorski, specialists from the Social Service, the Legal Department and the Construction Authority, as well as the leaders of the parish administration, to discuss the process of preventing the consequences of the storm.

During the meeting, answers to residents’ unclear questions and information about what has already been done will be provided, as well as future steps will be discussed, the municipality says.

On Monday, September 4, the meeting took place at the Bukaishi People’s House, on Tuesday, September 5 – at the Augstkalne parish administration, on September 6 – at Naudītes school, on September 7 – at the Kaķenieki People’s House and on September 8 – at the Culture House in Zelmeniņi.

As previously reported, the municipality of Dobele region estimated that the necessary financing for the prevention of the damage caused by the storm on August 7 could reach up to 16.3 million euros.

More than 1,630 households were affected in the county, and a lot of damage was caused to agricultural enterprises and municipal infrastructure. In Dobele region, the total amount of aid paid for the restoration of houses damaged by the storm of August 7 has exceeded one million euros.
