The military exercises “Namejs 2023” will continue in the country until the beginning of October. For the first time in these exercises, representatives of local government civil defense committees are training together with the armed forces, Panorāma reports.

In the simulated round table exercises, the parties involved tried to understand how local governments could support the military forces and the local population in the event of various threats. One of such exercises was held in Jelgava on Tuesday, September 26.

Representatives of Civil Defense Committees and internal affairs bodies from 11 different municipalities gathered at the round table in the Operational Information Center building in Jelgava on Tuesday to give the armed forces their vision in cases of various threats.

What exactly is decided at the round table, what problems were discovered and what solutions were found, remains a mystery. However, it is recognized that it is important to involve citizens more in the defense of the country and themselves.

The Navy, on the other hand, has started the active phase of the national defense exercise “Namejs” in various parts of Latvia, including in Riga and the Kurzeme region, as well as in several ports.

As announced, comprehensive national defense exercises “Namejs 2023” are exercises organized by NBS to test and improve Latvia’s national collective defense plans. The training takes place from September 5 to October 2 throughout Latvia. About 8,500 participants will take part in the training. The exercise “Namejs 2023” demonstrates cooperation and interoperability with allied armed forces units, integrating allied units and headquarters in the execution of common tasks.

During the military exercises, military equipment will be used throughout Latvia, including the movement of armored personnel carriers and convoys along public roads and populated areas, as well as flights of NBS and allied aircraft in Latvian airspace, including at low altitude.
