However, the comment of the senior expert of the State Educational Content Center Rita Kursīte on Monday caused even more indignation about the content of these materials, reports Panorāma.

“If we ban everything related to Russia and stop taking the opportunity to learn Russian, then we will live in an information vacuum. It’s just as well if we calculate how many years ago we were under German rule, does that mean that we speak German aren’t we learning now too? We are learning!”
Evening shame and worry @ltvpanorama in the plot… Rita Kursīte @visc_gov_lv the senior expert, a person who participates in deciding what our young people should learn, openly and excitedly expresses the opinion that without knowledge of the Russian language there will be an information vacuum in Latvia. 🤢 pic.twitter.com/hKwZa1jitf

In a longer interview, the expert explained that the topics are different. The task on military education also includes the Latvian Jaunsardze, but the exchange program, with the Kremlin in the background, is international. Educators are free to choose topics. Currently, the materials have been removed, and the expert has been asked to explain her statements.
Minister Anda Čakša admitted that the incident forced the temporary management of the VISC to evaluate all teaching materials, as well as to develop a clear methodology for how these materials go from production to use in schools.
