Due to unsatisfactory water quality in Riga, it is not recommended to swim in the Hapaka ditch and Jugla lake, informed the External Communication Department of the Riga City Council.

In connection with the bad results of microbiological swimming water testing, it is currently forbidden to swim in the Hapaka moat in the active recreation area near Kleistu Street. Repeated sampling of swimming water from the Hapaka ditch is planned for next week.

On the other hand, the analyzes were not bad at the four water sampling sites of Lake Jugla, however, phytoplankton algae blooms were detected, so swimming in this lake is not recommended.

On the other hand, the other Riga swimming areas have good water quality.

Riga municipality invites you to use the official swimming areas in Daugavgrīva, Vakarbulļi, Vecāki, Rumbula, Bābelīt, Ķipsala, Lucavsala and Lucavsala bay and the recreation area near Ķīšezer, because they are properly equipped and the lifeguards of the Riga municipality police take care of the safety of swimmers.

At the beginning of each month, the water quality in the official swimming areas is checked by the Health Inspectorate, while the Housing and Environment Department of the Riga City Council, based on the concluded service contract with SIA “Vides audits”, organizes monthly monitoring of the bathing water quality in 18 favorite recreation areas near water bodies during the swimming season.

Swimming is also allowed in Ķīšezera – at Cimze street, at 14 Ezermalas street, at the boat pier, in the Dārziņu neighborhood in Daugava – at 19a Daugavmalas street, at 123 Daugavmalas street, at Dārziņu line 14, in Velnezera, at Dambjapurva lake, at Daugavgrivas beach at Flote street and opposite Riga treatment facilities, in Bullupė near Birzes street and Bolderājas quarry.

According to the information collected by the Riga Municipal Police, the warmest water today was in Bābelīša lake, where it warmed up to plus 23 degrees, in Lake Ķīšezer and Daugava near Lucavsala, where the water temperature reached plus 21 degrees, as well as in Daugava near Ķipsala, where the water temperature rose to plus 21 degrees .

As informed in the Riga City Council, the Department of Housing and Environment is continuing the improvement of beaches and recreation areas this year. This swimming season, new changing cabins for persons with functional disabilities have been installed in the Ķipsala swimming pool, the Vakarbulļi swimming pool and the Daugavgrīva swimming pool.

A new footbridge with two rest terraces, equipped with sunbeds and additional rest benches, has been installed in the Vakarbulli swimming area, improving the accessibility of the environment.
