Today, Krauzi was replaced in the position of the chairman of the ZZS by Viktors Valainis, the chairman of the ZZS Saeima faction, who was elected to this position unanimously.
Krauze pointed out that a person who is trusted and respected by the absolute majority of the people, who has authority among both citizens and politicians, should be elected as the President.
A politically neutral president of the people who does not discriminate between political forces and their voters is needed, said the LZS politician.
In this context, Krauze criticized the President Egil Levitt’s statement earlier, from which it can be concluded that Levitt considers 100,000 voters to be non-governmental and undemocratic. With such a statement, the President threatens democratic values, as he does not respect the choice of the voters, said the member of the Saeima.
Krauze emphasized that LZS supports a president elected by the people, who would represent all Latvian residents, as well as improve the situation in the country.
Valainis similarly stated that ZZS has never hidden that it does not support Levita.
Latvia needs a State President whose priority is not only external, but also internal security, who is able to point out the government’s mistakes and who can unite the people of Latvia, said the new chairman of LZS.
Both Krauze and Valainis emphasized the ambitions of ZZS to prepare an appropriate offer for the upcoming European Parliament elections in 2024. Krauze also indicated that already during the 14th Saeima, ZZS should become one of the parties forming the government.
The politician also pointed out that in the last four years, the involvement of members and departments in the party’s decision-making has increased. Krauze thanked ZZS Prime Minister candidate Aivars Lembergs (“for Latvia and Ventspils”), Valaini and Saeima deputy, former long-time leader of ZZS August Brigmanis (ZZS) for their contribution to the success of ZZS.
Both Krauze and Lembergs pointed out that the politicians of the opposition, including the ZZS, had less opportunity to express their opinion in certain public media programs in comparison to the politicians of the coalition, including the “New Unity”. There has also been a public opinion that opposition politicians are relatively widely covered in public media news.
LZS, together with the Social Democratic Workers’ Party of Latvia, forms the political union ZZS, which has a cooperation agreement with the party “Latvijai und Ventspilij”.
