On Wednesday, one of the Latvian gypsy organizations organized a protest with songs and dances at the Cabinet of Ministers, opposing the “unequal treatment in the distribution of European Union (EU) funding”, informed Osvalds Jezdovskis, chairman of the Association of Latvian Gypsies.
According to the organizer of the protest, the Society Integration Fund does not sufficiently inform Roma organizations about the funding available to them, but supports such educational projects whose data do not correspond to the real situation.
The organization led by him is not satisfied with the actions of Normunds Rudevičs, president of the Latvian Gypsy National Cultural Society, and Daiga Zaķe, director of the Center for Educational Initiatives, project manager, who have promised to support the entire gypsy community, but the gypsies have not received support.

Jezdovskis presented that Rudevičs, for example, received 90,000 euros in funding from the state for the organization of the festival, but the event was still for a fee. According to Jezdovski, state support is not sufficiently targeted. He encourages this funding to be channeled to the education and well-being of the Roma, by teaching skills according to the requirements of the labor market, providing them with jobs.
