From today, the Navy is starting the active phase of the national defense exercise “Namejs 2023” in various parts of Latvia, including Riga and the Kurzeme region, as well as in several ports, informed the public relations specialist of the Navy Līva Veita.

From today, the Navy is starting the active phase of the national defense exercise “Namejs 2023” in various parts of Latvia, including Riga and the Kurzeme region, as well as in several ports, informed the public relations specialist of the Navy Līva Veita.

The active phase of the exercise “Namejs 2023” of the Navy will take place until October 2.

During the exercise, the Navy will continue to improve its ability to perform tasks in the event of a national threat, including tasks in the defense of the port, conduct practical shooting exercises and exercises of maritime elements, exercises on shore and at sea, as well as strengthen cooperation between units.

In the active phase of the comprehensive national defense exercise “Namejs 2023”, all sub-units of the Navy will participate, including the ships of the Patrol Vessels and Minesweeper Squadrons. During the training, the Navy will conduct joint exercises with the National Guard’s 1st Riga Brigade and the National Guard’s 4th Kurzeme Brigade, the Naval Training Center of the Training Command, the 1st Regional Support Center of the Security Command and the State Border Guard subunits.

During training, soldiers and national guardsmen train in conditions as close as possible to reality, thus strengthening the skills to protect the unit’s area of ​​responsibility.

As announced, comprehensive national defense exercises “Namejs 2023” are exercises organized by NBS to test and improve Latvia’s national collective defense plans. The training takes place from September 5 to October 2 throughout Latvia. About 8,500 participants will take part in the training. The exercise “Namejs 2023” demonstrates cooperation and interoperability with allied armed forces units, integrating allied units and headquarters in the execution of common tasks.

During the military exercises, military equipment will be used throughout Latvia, including the movement of armored personnel carriers and convoys along public roads and populated areas, as well as flights of NBS and allied aircraft in Latvian airspace, including at low altitude.
