During the renovation works of the tram tracks in Riga, trams 1, 2, 5, 10 will run through the Central Market from Monday, March 6, informed Baiba Bartaševiča-Feldmane, head of the Public Relations Department of “Rīgas satiksme”.

During the works, the section of tram tracks on 13.janvāra street from Valņu street to 11.novembra street will be closed.

The name of the 10th tram route has been changed for the duration of the construction works – “Station Square – Bišumuiža” and the departure times from the end points have been changed.

The construction works at the intersection of 11 november embankment and 13 januvar street are co-financed from the Cohesion Fund of the European Union. In the project, without the reconstruction of the intersection, it is still planned to adapt the infrastructure of tram line 7 in the section from Centrāltirgus iela to the end point “Ķengarags” and the infrastructure of tram line 5 in the section from the intersection of Jūrmala gatve and Slokas iela to the end point “Iļguciems” to the parameters of the low-floor tram.

Also, during the project, it is planned to renovate four and build one substation, equipping all of them with electrical equipment, with the aim of ensuring adequate power supply for low-floor tram movement.

The total cost of the project is planned to be 55.2 million euros, while Cohesion Fund co-financing amounts to 85% of the eligible costs of the project, or 38.78 million euros.
