In the central part of the country, around 5 p.m., due to the strong wind, electricity supply was disrupted for approximately 3,000 AS “Sadales tīkls” customers, informed the company’s representative Inga Tilhena.
She notes that the strong wind, which, according to the information of the Latvian Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology, reaches a speed of 20 to 24 meters per second in gusts throughout Latvia, but in some places, especially in coastal areas, even exceeds 25 to 27 meters per second, causes damage to the electrical network.
The situation in the power grid is variable today due to adverse weather conditions. AS “Sadales tīkls” 39 operative work crews are working on damage prevention in order to restore electricity supply to customers as soon as possible.
Tilhena emphasizes that the damage to the power grid was mainly caused by trees and their branches falling into overhead lines, damaged supports and other elements of the power grid. Damage repair is hampered by heavy snowfall and slippery roads, which affect the speed of movement of crews and access to damage sites.
More than 100 operative work crews or more than 200 electrical fitters are ready to repair the damage, if necessary, JSC “Sadales tīkls” will attract additional crews to repair the damage.
The representative of AS “Sadales tīkls” reminds that under no circumstances should you approach power lines if there are trees, branches hanging on them or broken power lines visible on the ground. Such dangerous situations must be reported to JSC “Sadales netta” by calling the 24-hour free damage reporting phone number 8404, or to the State Fire and Rescue Service by calling 112.
Residents are invited to follow the situation in the electricity grid in the digital outage map available on the website “sadalestikls.lv”, where information about already registered electricity grid damage is collected. If the damage has already been registered at a specific address, it means that specialists are already working on its prevention and it does not need to be reported again.
