The police are proposing to start a criminal prosecution for the sale of psychotropic substances in Liepāja, informed the representative of the Kurzeme region administration of the State Police, Madara Šeršņova.

In August of last year, State Police officials arrested three persons for the possession and sale of psychotropic substances.

The police searched people’s properties and found money in one of them, which was most likely obtained from the sale of psychotropic substances. On the other hand, 100 tablets containing the narcotic substance phenazepam were found with one of the men.

According to Sheršniova, the investigation revealed that the resident of Liepāja and his spouse resold the prescription drugs intended for their own use in the original packaging to another person in order to obtain financial benefit. On the other hand, the buyer kept these tablets with the aim of further sale. All the suspects have previously come to the attention of the police for other types of offenses and were placed on non-custodial security measures for the duration of the investigation.

Officials of the Department of Combating Organized Crime, Serious and Serial Crimes of the Criminal Police Bureau of the Kurzeme Regional Administration of the State Police have completed the investigation in the criminal process and handed it over to the prosecutor’s office for the initiation of criminal prosecution.

According to the Criminal Law, the unauthorized possession of narcotic or psychotropic substances for the purpose of sale and the unauthorized sale of narcotic or psychotropic substances is punishable by deprivation of liberty for a period of two to eight years, with confiscation of property or without confiscation of property, and with probation supervision for a period of up to three for years.
