A group of girls collected 1,500 signatures for the Isola neighborhood bookstore

The rent of the library “Book island”located in via Pollaiuolo in the Isola district, will increase dramatically: in a few hours, 1,500 signatures were collected on Change.org.

“Book island”: in search of an alternative location

The business was inaugurated in 2012 by Laura Campasso, mother of Elena Fasoli, who currently manages the bookshop together with her colleague Debora Omassi.

Fasoli has already set to work to find an alternative location, since the contract will expire in June 2023. Upon hearing the news, a group of thirteen-year-old girls – from the Govone middle school in via Pepe – published the petition “Let’s save Isola Libri Milan!”collecting almost 1,500 subscriptions in a few hours.

“Book island”: attention for younger children

Elena and Debora did not expect such a mobilization, much less the total solidarity of the customers.

“If this bookshop were to disappear and be replaced by yet another local, we would not only lose one of the very few cultural centers for children and adults that has long accompanied every“ bookish ”action of the inhabitants, but we would have to relate only to the large online commerce.
