US Secretary of State Antony Blinken compared the Hamas attacks on Israel to the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001.

“If you look at it in proportion to the size of the Israeli population, this is equivalent to 9/11,” he said, speaking in Tel Aviv. “This attack was so big and devastating,” she said.

“And obviously, each of these situations is very different. And it’s important to keep that in mind,” Blinken added in response to a reporter’s question.

The attacks of September 11, 2001, also known as 9/11, killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
