On Tuesday, March 7, the government approved the distribution of state subsidies in the amount of 8,720,490 euros for support measures in agriculture and rural development.

In the amendments developed by the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), the funds are divided by support measures, 6,007,335 euros are earmarked for livestock development, 472,013 euros for crop development, 681,586 euros for international and mutual cooperation, 859,782 euros for market promotion, and 77,500 euros for food quality schemes. 40,000 euros for the improvement of professional education programs in the agricultural sector and 582,274 euros for financing the implementation of the support measures initiated in the previous year.

At the same time, the Ministry of Interior informs that compared to 2022, the funding for the support measure “Livestock development” has increased by 44,913 euros, “International and mutual cooperation” – by 93,274 euros, “Market promotion” – by 500,000 euros, while “Agricultural industries for the improvement of professional education programs” – 10,000 euros each.

On the other hand, funding for the support measure “Agricultural development” was reduced by 429,315 euros, and funding for the support measure “Support for food quality schemes” was reduced by 399,774 euros.

Also, the MoE states that a number of support measures have been removed from the regulations, which will be financed from other funding sources in the future.

Support for participation in food quality schemes and the beekeeping industry will be financed from the strategic plan of the Common Agricultural Policy 2023-2027. funding, but support for the deer breeding industry, breeding and preservation of local endangered breeds will be financed from additional state support.

The Ministry of the Interior emphasizes that this year it was possible to increase funding for other support measures.

The support for the collection, transportation, processing and disposal of animal carcasses has been increased from 1,273,440 euros in 2022 to 1,873,440 euros in 2023. On the other hand, support for market promotion has been increased by 500,000 euros and in 2023 it is 905,033 euros.

The increase in support will help entrepreneurs promote the export of Latvian agricultural and food products, according to the ministry.

According to the Ministry of Interior, support for the collection, transportation, processing and disposal of animal carcasses has been increased, as the increase in fuel and electricity prices for service providers has significantly increased the cost of the service.

At the same time, the amendments stipulate that the deadline for submission of applications for support applicants to the Rural Support Service is March 31, with the exception of the market promotion event, where applications must be submitted by March 15.

The amendments will enter into force after publication in the official publication “Latvijas Vēstnesis”.
