On the night of June 6, US satellites recorded an explosion at the Kahovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HEP) just before the collapse of the power plant’s dam, the “New York Times” newspaper reports, referring to unnamed American officials.
Infrared sensors have registered a heat signal that may indicate a powerful explosion, the sources said.
The US intelligence service suspects that Russia is behind the destruction of the dam, however, there is no sufficient evidence for this, the newspaper reports.
In addition, according to the “New York Times”, the explosion could have been accidental. There is no evidence yet that it was intentional.
Citing the conclusions of engineers and bomb experts, the newspaper says that a deliberate explosion inside the Russian-controlled Kahovka dam was likely the cause of its collapse.
The collapse of the structure or an attack from the outside were also possible, but this explanation is less likely.
According to the latest data, at least 13 people have lost their lives in the floods that occurred after the collapse of the dam.
