Egypt warned Israel of an upcoming attack by Hamas three days before it began, US House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Mike McCaul said on Wednesday.
“We know that Egypt warned the Israelis three days before the event about its possible course,” McCaul told reporters after a closed-door session in which lawmakers were briefed on the intelligence.
He added that he did not want to reveal the secret details, but such a warning was given, although it is not known at what level.
McCall said the attack may have been planned a year in advance.
We’re not quite sure how we didn’t notice it, and it’s not clear how Israel didn’t notice it, the congressman admitted.
Cairo has not officially commented on speculation that it had warned Israel of the impending attack.
However, Egyptian media linked to the state’s intelligence services on Wednesday, citing security sources, denied reports in the Israeli press that such warnings had been issued.
