Mathematician Azat Miftahov, who had just been released from prison for an alleged attack on the office of the ruling United Russia party, was detained by Russian authorities on Monday on terrorism charges.
Azat Miftakhov, a mathematician whose sentence of 6 years for nothing ended yesterday, was not allowed to walk free. Putin’s thugs are preparing another fake case to keep him in jail indefinitely. Read in my linked tweet – why. It must be a rallying cry for anyone who cares about… https://t.co/lm32pJuCIY

Russian media reports that 30-year-old Miftakhov was detained just minutes after being released.
According to his lawyer Svetlana Sidorkina, he is accused of “justifying terrorism”.
In 2019, Miftakhov was accused of an attack on the United Russia (United Russia) office in Moscow, but he denied any wrongdoing.
At that time, Miftahov was studying mathematics for a doctorate and expressed anarchist views. He claimed that he was tortured while in custody.
In 2021, the Moscow court convicted him of hooliganism and sentenced him to six years in prison.
Human rights defenders have recognized Miftahov’s conviction as obviously unjust, and now the “Memorials” organization, which has already been dissolved by Vladimir Purin’s dictatorial regime, considers him a political prisoner.
As the regime’s propaganda mouthpiece TASS reports, the new charges are based on Miftahov’s conversations with other prisoners, in which he expressed support for the 2018 attack on the Arkhangelsk branch of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), during which three descendants of the Chekists were killed.
