The head of the Russian mercenary group “Wagner” Yevgenii Prigozhins, who died in the plane crash, faced pressure from the Russian Ministry of Defense shortly before his death, which prompted him to go to Moscow, Latvian Radio reports, referring to “Bloomberg”.

The Russian Ministry of Defense actually lured Prigozhin out of Africa, a source told the media.

The source added that the logistical capabilities of the “Wagner” group were threatened.

Russia has informed the Brazilian Aviation Accident Investigation Board that it will not currently conduct an investigation into the crash of the Brazilian-made Embraer plane belonging to the founder of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, in accordance with international regulations, the authority said on Tuesday.

Brazil’s Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA) has confirmed that it would join a Russian-led investigation in the interest of improving aviation safety if invited and if the investigation is conducted in accordance with international regulations.

Russia’s aviation authority is under no obligation to agree to CENIPA’s request, although some former investigators have said it should.

The US and other Western governments suspect the Kremlin of being involved in the Aug. 23 crash of the Embraer Legacy 600 plane, which has a good safety record, in the Tver region.

According to the Montreal-based UN International Aviation Organization (ICAO),

Prigozhin’s August 23 flight from Moscow to St. Petersburg was a domestic flight, so it is not subject to the international rules known in the industry as Annex 13.

“They have no obligation, only a recommendation to do so,” CENIPA head Marcel Moren told the Reuters news agency when asked if Russia would be open to such an investigation.

It has already been reported that on August 23, Prigozhin’s plane “Embraer Legacy 600” crashed in the Tver region. According to the information of the Russian Aviation Administration, there were ten people in the plane – three crew members and seven passengers. Prigozhin was also among the passengers.

All the people who were on the plane died.

The Russian Investigative Committee announced on Sunday – as a result of the examinations, it was confirmed that the identities of the deceased correspond to the official list of crew members and passengers.

Thus, the committee confirmed that Prigozhin was among the dead.

It is true that, since the moment of the disaster, there have been speculations among experts and the media that it was a staged death of Prigozhin, giving the founder of “Wagner” the opportunity to disappear.

As Britain’s military intelligence said on Twitter on Friday, “there is no indisputable evidence that Prigozhin was on the plane and he is known as someone who followed extreme security measures.”

“It is highly probable, however, that he is indeed dead,” admitted British intelligence.

Experts interviewed by Western-based Russian media favor the version that Prigozhin’s plane crash is the Kremlin’s revenge for the “Vagner” coup that took place in June.

The order to kill Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner mercenary group, was most likely given by Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

ISW agrees with the opinion that the crash of Prigozhin’s plane did not happen by chance on August 23 – exactly two months after the start of the uprising on June 23.
