“Border guards on the Ukrainian-Polish border welcomed the participants of the ultramarathon, which started in Kyiv on June 25. The athletes ran carrying the Ukrainian flag, which they received from the Ukrainian troops in Bakhmut,” the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announced.
Athletes ran through Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Rivne and Volhynia regions.
The flag was handed over to the Lithuanian athletes at the border point “Ustiluha”. They will bring it to Vilnius, where it is planned to be lifted before the NATO summit, which will begin on July 11.
“With this campaign, we want to draw the attention of the international community to the war in Ukraine and bring it closer to becoming the 33rd member state of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. In Lithuania, when the NATO summit will take place, people will hang Ukrainian flags on their houses, on balconies, on bridges, so that all delegations can see the flags on all the roads on which they will drive,” said Dominiks Kubilius, the organizer of the campaign.
Vilnius municipality has joined this initiative to support Ukraine’s accession to NATO. It is planned that no less than 33,000 Ukrainian flags will be flown in the Lithuanian capital on the eve of the summit and during the summit.
