Israeli ground forces have carried out raids in the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, the army said on Friday, in preparation for an upcoming ground offensive in the densely populated Palestinian territory.

“In the past 24 hours, the Israeli Armed Forces conducted local raids in the Gaza Strip to complete efforts to clear the area of terrorists and weapons,” the army said in a statement. “The search for missing persons also took place during these operations.”

As reported, on Friday, the Israeli army gave the UN representatives in the Gaza Strip an order to evacuate the northern part of the enclave, where 1.1 million people live, within 24 hours.

The order to evacuate the Gaza Strip could signal an upcoming Israeli army ground operation in the Gaza Strip, although it has not yet been announced. On Thursday, the army announced that the operation was being prepared, but a political decision on it had not yet been made.

Meanwhile, Hamas, whose fighters traditionally use civilians as cover, has called on Palestinians not to leave their homes.
