The Russian army has already lost more than 12,000 pieces of military equipment in Ukraine, including at least five S-400 missile launch systems.
“S-400” are considered to be the main anti-aircraft missile systems of the Russian Air and Space Forces, reports “Newsweek”.
Two “S-400” systems were destroyed in the last month in Crimea, which the Ukrainian army has recently been firing more and more actively.
According to the information collected by the independent military monitoring project “Oryx”, Ukrainian forces have destroyed five “S-400” missile transport-launching equipment – each of them contains four missile containers.
In addition, several pieces of other equipment were also destroyed, including a command center, a radar and a security vehicle.
The destruction of the S-400 is important for two reasons, military expert David Hembling explains to Newsweek.
First, the S-400 was previously believed to work well, but it is now clear that these systems are vulnerable.
Second, the destruction of each S-400 installation creates a hole in the occupier’s air defenses, which can then be used to launch new strikes on the occupier’s positions.
One “S-400” complex can include several dozen missile launchers, as well as a command center, a radar complex and technical support means.
The price of one such complex is at least 600 million US dollars.
