The United States did not have “early warnings or indications” that the Palestinian militant group “Hamas” was preparing an attack on Israel, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Thursday, October 12.

“If we had such indications, we would share them with Israel, but as far as I know we have not received any,” Austin said after a meeting of NATO ministers in Brussels.

It has been reported that 1,200 people, mostly civilians, were killed in Hamas’s surprise attack on Israel on Saturday, the worst in Israel’s 75-year history.

Gaza officials say more than 1,400 people have been killed in a campaign of Israeli air and artillery strikes against the Palestinian enclave.
