Romania has sent a request to Moscow to reduce the number of employees in the Russian embassy by 51 people, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The number of Russian diplomats and technical staff should correspond to the number of staff at the Romanian embassy in Russia, the ministry said.
In total, Russia had to reduce the number of employees by more than 50 people, but since not all positions were filled, 11 diplomats and 29 technical administrative employees will leave Romania.
That’s more than half the state’s seats.
30 days are allocated for the termination of work.
The decision to reduce the number of diplomatic mission personnel reflects the current level of relations between the two countries after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the ministry said.
Already in February, Romania suspended the activities of the House of Russians in the country, stating that the Russian side is deliberately distorting reality and historical truth in order to influence Romanian public opinion.
